Staff members in the General Services category are normally recruited and paid on a local basis. A short-term contract (STC) is an appointment with a limited duration, carrying limited benefits and is subject to the OPCW Staff Regulations and Interim Staff Rules, as applicable.
The Director-General retains the discretion not to make any appointment to this vacancy, to make an appointment at a lower grade, or to make an appointment with a modified job description. Several vacancies may be filled.
Successful applicants will be notified and put on a roster for further consideration for short-term appointment based on the needs of the OPCW.
 Principal Functions  Requirements

This vacancy announcement seeks qualified candidates to fill temporary administrative positions for different branches throughout the Organisation.

A roster will be maintained with candidates who meet the required profile. Different administrative positions may vary in duties. Suitable candidates are often needed at a very short notice and candidates that are currently available are strongly encouraged to apply.

Candidates for these positions are recruited on a local basis, which means that such appointments carry limited benefits. Below is a generic list of duties and responsibilities:
1. Under the supervision of the Head of Branch/Unit or designee, the incumbent provides a wide range of office support and general administrative assistance (e.g., arrangements for travel, meetings and other events, reservations, assisting budget preparation, monitoring expenditures, processing HR documents etc.), to include preparing and/or processing administrative requests/ documents (e.g. requisitions, purchase orders, travel requests, contracts, expenditure authorizations, etc.);
2. Classifies and codes material relating to a number of subject-matter areas and maintains general office files;
3. Prepares and checks correspondence and documents for completeness and accuracy;
4. Co-ordinates to schedule and arrange meetings/appointments with officials within and outside the OPCW, using discretion and judgment with regard to priority of appointments and maintains appointments calendar;
5. Drafts routine correspondence as required;
6. Receives and assists official visitors;
7. Monitors incoming and outgoing mail;
8. Performs other duties as required.

 Knowledge and Skills

High school diploma or equivalent diploma of (higher) secondary education

Availability at short notice.

Previous work experience within an international organisation.


At least 3 years in the administrative field for the GS-4 level and 4 years for GS-5 level.


Fluency in English is essential and a good working knowledge of one of the other official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is desirable.

Monthly Salary - Total monthly salary consists of a net monthly salary (net of taxes and before medical insurance deductions). Net monthly salary for GS-4 is 3.019 Euros and for GS-5 is 3.381 Euros. Net Salary   EUR 3,019
